Hi there! I'm Debbie. I'm the girl who runs this blog: Twist – a collection of recipes, favorite ingredients, and thoughts about feeding a loved one who suffers from severe food allergies; in our case, that would be dairy, egg, beef, peanut, and tree nut.  

I credit everything I know to the countless parents before me (all of whom were "virtual" strangers - literally, I met them online) who offered hours and hours of support, encouragement, and menu ideas when I was lost and felt I would never experience "normalcy" again.  Now, armed with a little bit of know-how and a lot of enthusiasm, I hope to pass along the same encouragement and help to others who are embarking on this journey.  

Although we are not vegan, I found that vegan tricks-of-the-trade are the best way to ensure desserts set up correctly.  Cookies look like cookies and cakes are light and fluffy without appearing to be something my masonry father could successfully build a house with. 

Since becoming the queen of all food label readers, I am acutely aware (ok, obsessed even) with the amount of chemicals, preservatives, and JUNK that is being consumed by the American diet.  That is why I now choose organic, shop local farmer's markets, order our meat directly from the farmer,  grow my own herbs and vegetables, and feed my family as clean as possible.  Of course, I'm not perfect and do enjoy a good Wendy's hamburger, fries, and Coke as much as the next guy, but I do my best, which is all we can ever hope for.
